For sixteen years ,filmmaker Rakesh Roshan and his superstar son Hrithik Roshan have proved to be a formidable combination at the box office. From January 2000 when the light-eyed actor was launched in Kaho Na…Pyaar Hai, a film that is still considered a benchmark by the trade, until their current outing Kaabil, this father-son combination have also set and broken records as filmmaker and actor. And now with their latest film Kaabil , directed by Sanjay Gupta , they have entered into the 100 crore club .
The reason why the Roshans have collectively become a team that has proved a winner is because of their passion, perseverance and precision towards their craft. Each time they have come together they have made it a point to raise the bar. When Hrithik was at the top of his game, enjoying stupendous success as an action star, Roshan Sr gave him a complete image makeover in Koi Mil Gaya. Then a few years down the line, the two of them introduced India to the superhero genre with the Krrish franchise. And not happy to just rest on their laurels, they went to achieve new heights with Kaabil directed by Sanjay Gupta.
Says director Sanjay Gupta on Kaabil touching 100 crores ” it feels surreal . im happy that i have entered the exclusive 100 crore club . But i am even happier with the love that our film has received from the audience and the critics.
Here, Hrithik took up the challenge of playing a blind man for the first time. And the kind of conviction he brought to the role is bringing him continuous praise from within the film fraternity, his fans and the audience alike. From veterans like Rekha, Shabana Azmi, Javed Akhtar and Rishi Kapoor to the more contemporary stars like Anil Kapoor and Akshay Kumar everyone was mesmerised with Hrithik’s bravura performance. While praise also poured for his co-actors Yami Gautam and the Roy brothers-Ronit and Rohit, Hrithik’s screen journey as a visually-impaired man who becomes an avenging angel when he is wronged, brought him accolades from audiences across India and overseas. So much so that at the end of 11 days the film has gone on to collect over 100 crores already and what’s more the craze for Kaabil continues. Opening in Pakistan this week, the film is expected to leave a winning trail behind in that territory as well.
